Established in 2011, Culture for Climate Scotland (originally Creative Carbon Scotland) is a small organisation supporting the arts and cultural sector to become more climate friendly. We believe the sector has a unique role to play in achieving the necessary transformational change in society towards a sustainable Scotland.
Initially, Culture for Climate Scotland focused on building the sector’s capacity to measure its carbon emissions. Within a few years we had begun to explore the role culture can play in influencing the wider world through the work cultural organisations and practitioners develop, make, publish, present and promote. Gradually our focus has widened to include both adaptation to the impacts of climate change by cultural organisations and culture’s role in facilitating effective adaptation by others, and to engage not just the arts sector but also screen production, the creative industries and heritage, and those organisations working on sustainability and climate change, encouraging them to explore how the cultural sector can help them achieve their aims.
We receive support from the Edinburgh festivals, the Federation of Scottish Theatre and the Scottish Contemporary Art Network as well as financial support from the national funder Creative Scotland and in-kind support from the City of Edinburgh Council.
While we are always grateful for the financial support we receive from Creative Scotland and from other funders for project-specific work, sometimes it simply isn’t enough to participate in and implement all the work that is now being asked of us, not only by Scotland’s cultural sector but by the sustainability sector as well.
We appreciate every donation made to us to help us continue our work.
Thank you for your support.
