Rothesay Pavilion, an unrivalled architectural masterpiece, is a rare example of International Modernist style in Scotland. However, despite its significance, it faces an uncertain future. The restoration of this lively hub on one of Scotland's most beautiful and accessible islands, once bustling with holiday entertainment, conferences and events, is at risk. This jeopardises its appeal as one of Scotland's a top visitor destination, the opportunity for renewed prosperity and the chance for everyone to make a good living and pursue a career at home. With ongoing restoration efforts, we are 80% of the way towards completion. Remodelling and building work retain the 800-seater main hall and original timber dance floor (the UK’s 3rd largest) to which is being added a new multi-functional seafront exhibition and gallery space; second performance space and bistro café to serve locally grown produce. Retail space will promote contemporary craft and design. Dedicated multimedia facilities, co-working, and office space encourage creative entrepreneurs to locate, start-up, and grow their businesses. The flexible, new range of facilities offer the potential for accessible and unlimited new activities and events for leisure, education, training, and development - all focussed on recognising Bute’s rich heritage, supporting community wealth and wellbeing, and offering newfound purpose amongst every generation, and especially for young people and families on the island. Yet, we require additional support to secure its future. A further £2 million sinking fund is needed to ensure its sustainability and self-sufficiency, pump priming Bute’s cultural regeneration and setting it up for long term success. Our vision for the Pavilion is one of modernity and inclusivity, encompassing cultural festivals, exhibitions, and meaningful provision for community activity, lively entertainment and entrepreneurship. It will be a beacon of creativity and culture, revitalising the essence of Bute's appeal by preserving and revitalising a unique piece of Scotland's cultural and built heritage. Infused with bold ambition and imagination, it will inspire and encourage every generation to follow their dreams.
