For those mothers and their babies who live with daily challenging, often perilous circumstances across the African continent, Maternal Health Africa gives them the support of lifesaving, live changing maternal medical care. In Sierra Leone, many mothers lack access to essential ultrasound scans. MHA’s mobile ultrasound service reaches out across the remote villages of the Bombali district, providing hundreds of young, pregnant mothers with crucial scans and assessments. A scan can identify a high-risk condition early, leading to life-saving interventions, including emergency surgeries and referrals. This simple medical check-up gives hope and saves lives. But we need to do more. The success of this pilot paves the way for nationwide expansion to make every pregnancy safe and enable every mother and her unborn child thrive across the country. In Ethiopia, despite the impact of the Tigray war on maternal health, we have been making a difference. By deploying specialists to three peripheral hospitals, we reinstated essential maternal health services, benefiting nearly 8,500 pregnant women – performing multiple Caesarean deliveries and gynaecologic surgeries, preventing numerous maternal and neonatal deaths. Our work is vital if emergency obstetric services are to continue. Your support TODAY will ensure every woman who needs our compassion and care receives that support and every baby is assured of a brighter future.
