Diane’s story
Two treasured, ancient monuments in Cleobury Mortimer are in desperate need of rehabilitation: my newly installed third bionic hip and the 17th centenary clock of St Mary’s church.
Just under a fortnight ago, I took a tumble and fractured my recently installed second bionic hip, along with my leg. After a complete factory refit at the Royal Worcestershire Hospital, I am pleased to be back home and am slowly learning to walk again by hobbling along on my zimmer frame. It’s going to be a long haul but I am determined to get back to full dancing, partying and bell ringing glory soon.
St Mary’s church is a beautiful 12th century church in the heart of the Cleobury Mortimer community, best known for its crooked spire. This year we’re undertaking a huge fundraising initiative to repair the church clock, refurbish the vestry and install a staircase to the ringing room. The present access, via a metal ladder, gives the average health & safety official nightmares!
To support the rehabilitation of both me and the clock I’m excited to announce my fundraising initiative: Diane’s Sponsored 5k Limp, Roll and Skip to Recovery! This is the first Friends of St Mary’s dedicated fund-raising event of the year and I want to make this our most impactful event yet! I will be tracking the distance I walk as I recover day by day and am aiming to get to a cumulative distance of 5 kilometres - literally one step at a time.
Please consider sponsoring me. Absolutely no flowers, gifts or cards – please consider a sponsorship donation instead. A gift of even a small amount will make a huge difference to the Friends of St Mary’s ability to plan and carry out this work. It will also spur me on to stop being pathetic and get moving!
