maddison’s story
hi, i’m madi and me, my mum and my friend grace are all travelling to the gambia, africa in december 2025 to carry on the journey of giving all we can to help. my mum has gone on this trip for many years and she has always told me the stories of how precious it is to see every one’s face light up as soon as our jeeps hit their school. we are going with the charity B.A.C.E and are linked to a school we improve every year (my mum has been there to watch and partake in it being built). although i have only been once so far ,in 2023, it’s such a humbling experience and makes you grateful of what you have knowing others don’t. this year will be graces first time attending. whilst we’re on this trip we teach the children anything and everything from teaching them how to brush their teeth to basic mathematics to learning all different languages.
We are trying to raise some money to be able to support and give the children what they really need. So, The two of us (me and grace) are going to take part in a 50k walk from Bede’s Prep School, Eastbourne, to the heart of a small village called Alfriston. On day one we will take the coastal scenic route along the Seven Sisters. Starting at Bede’s, we will walk down to Beachy Head, straight trough to Birling Gap to then trek over the Seven Sisters, then cutting inland following the course of the Seven Sisters Country Park. We then further walk through the villages of Westdean and Litlington. And at the end of the day we will reach our destination of Alfriston. We will camp over in the local campsite and carry on our journey the following morning. On day two, The walk begins in Alfriston and follows the South Downs Way inland, passing the Long Man of Wilmington, a chalk figure carved into the hillside. The path continues through fields and woodland, eventually reaching the outskirts of Eastbourne. The walk will then come to an end when we arrive back at Bede’s Prep. The walk estimates at being about 50 kilometres, however if we don’t reach this goal by the end, we will extend it further by walking along the coast of Eastbourne. The terrain is mixed, including; with grass, dirt tracks, fields, and some road sections. So we’ll make sure to bring some hayfever tablets!
We are also in the middle of planning a quiz night at the conquerors march to also help us fundraise.
