Kris’s story
I’m taking part in this year’s Charity Challenge in the Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland.
Alongside 39 incredible others, I’ll be tackling a challenging 18.4km route across five of the highest peaks with around 1.5k of ascent. It’s expected to take 10-11 hours, so definitely more than your average Sunday stroll!
This year, we’re proud to be supporting Pitt Hopkins UK, a charity that’s incredibly close to home for one of my colleagues and their family. Pitt Hopkins syndrome is an ultra-rare, lifelong genetic neurological condition that can cause severe developmental delays, little or no speech, breathing difficulties, epilepsy, and complex medical needs. It places a huge emotional and practical strain on families.
Pitt Hopkins UK is the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by this condition. Run largely by parents the charity connects families who might otherwise feel isolated , provides trusted information, raises awareness to improve diagnosis and care and supports vital research into the condition.
This will be my first hike of this kind, so it’s going to be a real challenge but one I’m proud to take on for such an important cause.
I’ve set a personal fundraising target of £500 and any support, big or small, would be hugely appreciated - especially when the legs start to question things half way up a mountain!).
Thank you for your support!
