Maggie’s story
On November 8th, I’m going to be (hopefully!) completing a marathon swim, of 10k in the pool.
I wanted to set myself a challenge that would really push me. I’ve never thought of myself as a naturally sporty person, but swimming has always been the one thing I come back to. It feels very meditative for me. I can get quite anxious and in my head, and swimming really helps to quieten that for the time I’m in the water, focusing on my breathing and the repetitive movement. The furthest I’ve managed so far is 4k, so 10k will be a big step up, and I’m hoping to complete in about four hours.
I am raising money for Eat or Heat, a Walthamstow charity that has been supporting families for nearly 14 years. They make sure people do not have to choose between heating their homes and putting food on the table, and as costs keep rising, their work is more vital than ever.
My target is £300, which will go directly toward helping families in the community.
