Lauren’s story
Our beautiful wife and mum, Joanne, was previously diagnosed with stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer in 2017. This type of cancer is known to be very aggressive with a survival rate of 66% after 3 years. Following chemotherapy, radiotherapy and several operations she was given the all clear and beat the odds.
After just reaching the 5 year all clear mark in November 2022, Joanne started to suffer with severe headaches. In February, she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and later tests confirmed that the Triple Negative Cancer had returned. After a courageously fought battle during the last 2 months, which Joanne spent mostly in hospital, we were heartbroken to discover that there was nothing that could be done to prevent the cancer from spreading and ultimately take Joanne away from us.
We have chosen this charity as it specifically raises money for research and support for Triple Negative Breast Cancer. This type of breast cancer is still relatively unheard of and therefore under researched. Triple Negative Breast Cancer is most common in ladies aged 40-50 and yet screening is not offered until the age of 50-70 years old. Until this changes please check yourself, always listen to your body, and if you are unsure then go and get checked properly.
Joanne herself had organised events in the past to raise money for Shine Bright Foundation, so we know it is one close to her heart. Please read further information about the charity here - https://shine-bright-foundation.org.uk/
