Lorraine’s story

Hello, my name is Lorraine and I am the Head of The Grange School. When I was approached to compete for the Strictly glitter ball, I couldn't do anything but throw myself into it wholeheartedly. There were two main reasons for this, both of which centred around The Grange community.
Firstly, the charity we are raising money for, the Motor Neurone Disease Association, is one that is close to the heart of the teachers in the Senior School. A much-loved colleague, Sally, was diagnosed with the disease in 2019 and I wanted to support the fundraising efforts of our Senior School staff. I hope that those staff who worked alongside Sally, and the alumni who benefited from her expertise when she was Head of Business Studies and Economics, will support my fundraising efforts as I do my best to stay upright and remember my dance steps in front of a room full of 600 parents!
Secondly, having just launched our new school values, which include being Positive, Adventurous, and Resilient, I could hardly ask our student body to take risks and embrace challenges if I was not willing to do that myself. So, to our current students and recent leavers who can empathise with my fear of making a fool of myself and being well and truly out of my comfort zone, I hope that you might be able to make a small contribution to our fundraising effort.
Finally, I have no dance experience whatsoever - indeed, as a child, my parents decided I was better suited to playing football than taking dance lessons, as I had all of the grace of 'a bull in a china shop'. Therefore, my dance experience is limited to jumping about enthusiastically to an indie banger. I really hope that those of you who look at this and think ‘wouldn’t it be easier (and less embarrassing) for the Head to sit in the audience and cheer everyone else on whilst enjoying a lovely meal’ will take pity on me, dig deep into your pockets in support of MNDA a charity committed to finally finding a cure or even some viable treatment for this the most devastating of diseases.
Here's hoping I can get through one and a half minutes without too much incident!
