Prodigal Bikes’s story
Be A Saint Day - 18th March 2024
A group of 10 employees from across Leonardo Helicopters, Yeovil, are coming together to carry out some essential refurbishment work for Prodigal Bikes as part of the community outreach program known as Be A Saint Day.
On the day, the team will be constructing a new shadow board and replacing/assembling various shelving units, which will both be hugely beneficial for tool storage in the workshop. The team will be as sustainable as possible in resourcing materials to complete the project, and the money raised will be used to aid the purchase of materials and equipment to carry out the project.
Any excess funds raised will go straight to Prodigal Bikes, with an aim to support the purchase of specialist tool kits to send out to Tanzania later in the year.
Prodigal Bikes collects unwanted bikes from the South Somerset / East Devon / West Dorset area. They then refurbish and upgrade them.
Most are sent to remote areas of Africa, to help people there gain access to education, employment and healthcare, which are otherwise a long regular walk away. At the schools, the bikes help children concentrate in lessons as they are not late and exhausted when they arrive each day.
