John’s story

Hi, I’m John and a teacher at The Grange School for 42 years (although I may have retired once or twice). I’m proud to be learning to dance and, at the same time, raise money for such a worthy cause. The MNDA help, not only those with motor neurone disease, but also support their families and carers.

If you feel able to support the charity and my efforts to dance, then any contributions will be gratefully received, no matter how small.

Well, it’s all over and what a day yesterday. So nervous but we all cheered each other on, and had a great time. Such a supportive audience of friends made it such a memorable experience. Who would have thought that I can dance - with my own interpretation anyway!

Tomorrow’s the big day! Thank you, once again, to all my sponsors. We have been fundraising at school as well, and Anna George and I have shared the generous donations. My total, including these amounts, exceeds £1,500! All I have to do now, is DANCE! 🕺🕺🕺

When I woke up to this morning, Fiona reminded me that it is one week to go. As if I needed telling! The nerves are really building up and I find myself thinking through my steps at any quiet moment. I’m so grateful for all the good wishes and sponsorship - a big thank you to all of you.

Well, it’s a little over two weeks to the actual dance and Nat is getting me to “refine” my steps and movement (that means look less wooden). Really enjoying it and she is so patient, especially when she asks me to put my left foot forward and I use my right - “the other left foot,” she says - I know how my class feel now. Thank you again to all those who have supported me and the charity.

Thank you to all my sponsors. I have had 4 lessons with my partner, who has had to be very patient as I am a complete novice. However, I am learning slowly and loving tackling a completely new challenge.

Official event

Strictly at The Grange

On Saturday 18th March 2023, the Grange School Parents' Association is hosting 'Strictly at The Grange' sponsored by OCC Computer Personnel at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

The event will raise money for Motor Neurone Disease Association, in honour of our much loved and valued senior school teacher, Mrs Sally Brunt.

After months of dancing lessons, 10 adult volunteers from the school community will perform with a professional dancer in front of hundreds of people.
