Alo’s story
Hi Everyone,
My name is Alo and I'm joining a hiking challenge in the mountains of Snowdonia called 'Pujas with Altitude', from 5 – 7 September 2025. The money I'm raising is for Taraloka, a wonderful women's Buddhist retreat centre set in the Welsh Borders' countryside. It is part of the Triratna Buddhist Community. Taraloka needs to repair their retreat centre's roof, insulate it and fit solar panels on top of it, to make it more sustainable.
Founded in 1985 (40 years this year!) and built by women, Taraloka offers a breadth and depth of Buddhist and meditation retreats for all levels of experience; from newcomers to committed Buddhists. Many lives have been transformed by what they learnt at Taraloka. A lady said: ‘Kindness is painted into the walls.’
Taraloka runs on the Buddhist principle of generosity. Their aim is to make retreats as accessible to all as they can, whether someone is on benefits or affluent. There is a small charge (currently, £65-£95 for a retreat), to know that a person is committed to coming. However, after that, Taraloka relies entirely on donations to continue offering retreats, which allow women to grow in wisdom and compassion, and to change their lives.
Thank you for your contributions to my fundraising!
