Pina’s story
Jue’s Story
In September 2017 Julie lost her precious Mum Laura to Ovarian Cancer after a 6-year battle. Julie and her family were obviously devastated, but whilst still mourning her mum and coming to terms with her loss, in December of 2017 Julie found a lump in her breast and was given the heart-breaking news that she had Triple Negative Breast Cancer. She was only 49 years old!
This came as a complete shock to her, her family and her friends. She had surgery to remove her breast and started on intense Chemotherapy for 6 months. This treatment coincided with her 50th birthday, not the way Julie wanted it to be, but she soldiered on and was amazingly positive throughout…..she refused to let this get the better of her!
She completed her chemotherapy and life went back to ‘her new normal’.
Some months later after not feeling too good, she found a lump in her neck. This was checked out by her consultant and it was confirmed as secondary cancer! She underwent Radiotherapy for many weeks. This again left her tired & scarred, but she was still so positive.
Following this in January/February 2020 Julie had to have a hysterectomy due to abnormal findings in her ovaries.
At the start of 2021 Julie wasn’t feeling right, she went for tests, scans etc and the results were absolutely devastating; she had tumours in her neck, spine, liver & lungs, this all being secondary to breast cancer. Julie started 18 weeks of chemotherapy which stopped towards the end of August 2021.
At this point Julie and her husband Mike went on a well deserved holiday to their favourite place Portugal for 3 weeks. Their daughter Abigail joined them later, followed by one of Julies brothers Paul and sister-in-law Rosey. Julie said she had a great time and made the best of this precious time, even though she didn’t feel well.
On her return from Portugal she attended hospital to have some tests, this was Monday 20th September 2021, it was then that she was given the news that her Liver was failing and that there were few options left.
It was when I went to visit Jue on Thursday 23rd September at her house that she said that she didn’t want flowers but would prefer donations to a Triple Negative Breast Cancer charity. I did a little bit of research and found Shine Bright Foundation (Charity No 1159185) who raise funds for research, raise awareness of TNBC and fund local treatments.
I let Julie know about this and told her that when the time was right I’d like to set up a ‘gofundme’ page or similar to raise some money for this charity, in her honour & memory. Julie gave her permission and was delighted.
Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Jue know what an amazing lady she was, the life and soul of any party, her zest for life. She was one of the kindest, most caring people you’d ever want to meet and was absolutely bonkers. She loved hard and lived harder. People were drawn to her beautiful smile and the brightest eyes.
Sadly my beautiful friend passed away at home on Friday, 26th November, surrounded by her family. That’s where she wanted to be x
Please, if you can make a small donation to this very worthy cause, it would mean a lot to Julie and her family. My target is £500. I promised Jue I wouldn’t let her down, please help me to keep this promise.
Thank you
