Frankie’s story

A year ago, when Frankie was 8 years old, she was very ill with severe abdominal pain and vomiting. It took numerous visits to the hospital over a few months to finally discover that she had a rare dermoid cyst in her ovary causing ovarian torsion which was treated during emergency surgery. Because of her age and no signs of infection, the hospital didn't do an ultrasound until she was admitted to hospital, very unwell. If the cyst had been discovered sooner, she would've been treated electively with less pain and trauma. Frankie doesn't want this to happen to others (especially children) so wanted to bring more awareness by telling her story and to also raise money for women’s and girl’s gynaecological health.
”It was a very scary and painful experience and I hope no one has trouble like I did getting a scan. It was not very nice and I’m now scared of being sick. It took 4 days to get my emergency surgery and it was bigger than many other cysts.”
Discussing ideas for a charity fundraiser, Frankie and her friends Annabelle and Amelie, settled on a brilliant challenge - to ask for sponsorship to cycle around the local Oval and see how many laps they can do!
Frankie is so lucky to have such good friends who want to support her for this and we wish them all the best for their challenge!
