Jen’s story

Hello! I'm Jen Sumner, the Artistic Director and one of the founders of Hubbub Theatre Company, a Derby-based charitable theatre company launched in 2012. I #LoveHubbub because I have seen the positive impact our work does for Learning Disabled adults and young people over 10 years.
We regularly support over 200 people in our Learning Disabled community in the East Midlands, and we need YOUR help to keep our work going!
We believe that every human being has a place in the world and is equal.
Our values are commitment, integrity, collaboration, creativity and kindness.
We aim to make people happier, healthier, friendlier, more connected, more inspired, more creative; to feel more and to feel better.
We do this through:
- an integrated physical theatre company creating exciting work for indoor & outdoor performance.the only Actor Training programme in the East Midlands for Learning Disabled actors, profiled in the national research project Separate Doors.
- the ‘Get Involved’ community engagement programme, including The Hub community drama group, school and community workshops, Continued Professional Development and social events for our Learning Disabled community.
- Training and workshops in The Hubbub Way to promote inclusive and integrated work.
We’re raising money to continue our vital work this year!
Issy, one of our company members says ‘Hubbub makes me feel like I’m part of the team.’ She and the rest of our Actors experience a sense of purpose and community through the work we do.
We aim to change the way that artists and people with Learning Disabilities are seen and understood. We want you to be a part of our mission!
Your donations go towards continuing our weekly activity at our studios in Derby, creating opportunities for Learning Disabled people to grow their skills in creating & performing; developing personal and social skills such as self confidence, leadership, team working, problem solving and effective communication and inspiring others through workshops and performances.
If you are unable to donate you can share the message of what we do, and encourage more kindness and love in our society.
‘As soon as you join you feel like you’re part of the group’ says Beth, a participant who finds connection and community in attending The Hub.
We need your support to keep Hubbub Theatre Company going for many more years to come – give what you can, and spread the word (and the love!)
Thank you, Jen and the Hubbub community.
#LoveHubbub
