Paul’s story
Hi my name is Paul Harris of www.crowndentalburs.co.uk
Myself and a friend (Sean Collins) will be taking on a 2-way relay swim from Jersey to France and back again between 12th - 16th August 2023.
Our swim will consist of swimming for 2 hours each on a rotational basis until we reach land in France then return back to land in Jersey.
We will have a pilot boat next to us in the water who will guide us safely avoiding any water traffic.
The rules are simple, we are allowed to wear swimming jammers/trunks, goggles and hat in our attempt and we must not touch the boat whilst we are in the water swimming.
Should we complete the Swim we will become the first 2 person 2-way relay.
The Jersey to France and back again swim swim is similar to the English Channel, just on a much smaller scale. The swim is 28 miles in a straight li e there and back, but as any long distance swimmer knows, swimming in a straight line is a rarity! Taking tidal movement into account, the swimmer will cover a distance of about 30-36 miles. We would
like to think the hours to complete the swim. swim will take between 15-20 hours.
The swim starts from La Coupe point, a small sandy beach behind St Catherine’s breakwater and most swimmers wade ashore at Saint-Germain-sur-Ay Plage on the Normany coast.
We are appreciative for any support helping those supported by the BDA Benevolent Fund.
