Jamie White's Cycle Ride across Turkey

In a moment of weakness at a Christmas drinks party I agreed to a ride across Turkey that I was assured was 'much easier than last years' so I said yes. Then in January the itinerary appears and it is 458 miles in 5 days which is daunting enough but 28000ft of climbing.....yikes. It is 5 days across Turkey with between 80-100miles a day with a killer day 4 of nearly 9000ft of climbing.

Needless to say I have been putting myself through the wringer on the Chilterns for what feels like endless weeks now. Whilst the hills are easier than before I am still a little daunted by the mountains to come and being able to do this day after day. It is the equivalent of 5 running marathons in 5 days.

I will be doing the event in aid of 1moreChild. This is a small charity set up in 2008 to help enable street children in Jinja, Uganda to go to school and prosper. A small amount of money goes along way – as little as £15 per month can transform a child’s life. 100% of all money donated to 1moreChild goes to tackle the problem. There are no western overheads, admin costs or wastage. The money raised from the cycle will make an enormous difference to 1moreChild and enable them to take many more children out of the slum.

1moreChild provide school fees, 3 meals a day, school uniforms, school supplies, shoes, clothes, medical care, tutoring, mentoring, a football club and various other activities.

If you could help me raise money for the charity by sponsoring me that would be great. This is the main fundraiser for the charity and all costs for the trip are covered by the riders. There are 100 riders and so far over the last 9 rides they have raised nearly £1million. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated whilst I plod up the hills!
