Hi everyone,
My brother and I are partnering with Ihsan Global Relief to raise urgent funds for their Pakistan Floods Appeal (Pakistan Floods Appeal - Ihsan Global Relief). You will have seen or heard about the floods in the news this summer – they are the worst in Pakistan’s history having impacted over one third of the country; this is an area the size of Britain!
Over 33 million people continue to be affected having lost their homes, income and infrastructure to heavier than usual monsoon rains and melting glaciers that followed a prolonged series of multiple heatwaves since May. All of this is linked to climate change . 1569 people died in the floods – over 500 of these are children(!) and many millions more are now at risk of starvation, malnutrition and disease.
The cause of this natural disaster is very much man-made. Pakistan contributes less than 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions and we were shocked to learn that the people of this already poor region are suffering because of the activities of others.
On 29 October, we are running the first ‘Hoops for Hope’ shootout. We will be shooting 555 basketball hoops in 3 hours – one for every child who has died in the floods. We would like to raise at least £555 which will be used to buy food, clean water, medical aid and clothing for other needy children in Sindh and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan. Please help us achieve our goal.
