Mary’s story
I'll turn 75 on 10th February. That's three quarters of a century, which seems to me like an absurd amount of time.
And I'm still standing, and still smiling, and still passionate about my favourite charity, Cumbria Rungwe Community Link.
Instead of cards and things, I'd love people to donate towards buying building materials for our next project in one of our Partner Schools in Rungwe, Tanzania.
Over the many years I've been involved with CRCL, I've seen at first hand the difference that education makes to the life choices and chances of children and young people in the rural area of Rungwe. I can talk for hours about individuals I've known as kids, now successful adults contributing to their communities, their country, and in some cases to our partnership.
Education starts with classrooms and other school buildings such as toilets. We work with our partners in Rungwe to plan, prioritise, and deliver these, so kids can learn in a good environment.
We built a classroom with donations for my 70th birthday - the best birthday present I've ever had. I was sent a beautiful video of it, full of kids having a lesson. Ask me and I'll share it with you.
This time I'm less ambitious, but I'd still like a ton of bricks. And some cement. And maybe more....
Don't forget to complete the Gift Aid section if you're a UK tax payer, and boost your donation by 25%
