Kathryn’s story
UPDATE: It’s done!! I’m feeling broken but I smashed my Garmin watch predicted time by like 10 mins and managed 2hrs 11 mins. Super super happy with that!! Thanks so much everyone for the sponsorship, it means a lot!!

On Sunday 27th October I am running the Stroud half marathon. I have not run this distance, in a race or otherwise, for over 10 years! Actually, if memory serves me rightly, I think it may not have been since 2009! Yikes! Training has been much more challenging than I remember in my younger days for sure, with more of the miles pounded out on my own, and has included getting a totally bruised right big toenail (a result of bad trail running shoe decision) which was pretty sore for a good few weeks and hampered my training plans ☹
I really wanted to add another half marathon to my belt, so my little boy can see his mum run a race, and to know that if you have a goal, and work hard at it, you can achieve your aim!
Normally in the past I would undertake races such as this to try to raise money for a health-related charity. However, this time I felt like I wanted to use my physical challenge to raise money for a good cause closer to home, and to have a more immediate impact locally. I am therefore running to raise money for the charity associated with our local primary school – Friends of Overbury school. All sponsorship I raise is specifically to go towards the purchase of new laptops, since the school's current ones are over 11 years old and slowly giving up the ghost. It is small village primary, with just under 90 pupils, and just as with many schools in the UK, funds raised via the help of parents and the local community, really do make all the difference to them. These days being able to use up to date IT equipment is also so very important for our children, many of whom will not get the chance at home.
If you could consider a donation, however small, it would really help spur me on when I hit the mentally hard moments during the race, and I and the charity would very much appreciate your support. Unlike some other fundraising sites, with Wonderful, 100% of what you donate, plus any gift aid if applicable, will go to the charity. There are absolutely no processing fees for you, or fees for the charity, which is pretty amazing!
UPDATE: Wow, thank you to all who have sponsored me thus far. Since my original target of £250 was smashed, I’ve now increased it!
