Diana’s story

For those who haven't seen me for a while, I belong to a wonderful team called Pink Champagne Breast Cancer Survivors Dragon Boat Team. I joined almost a year ago, shortly after moving to Bournemouth and it's given me a social circle in my new home, as well as a great source of post-breast cancer exercise... and a sense of competition into the bargain!
My breast cancer story started with my first diagnosis on New Year's Eve 1993, at the tender age of 32. While all my friends were having babies, I spent the next few months having breast cancer treatment. I had to wait a few years to have my babies.
Fast forward 22 years, and in 2016 my 2nd official NHS breast screening mammogram brought my 2nd breast cancer diagnosis; an aggressive tumour in the opposite breast. More treatment (and more aggressive treatment) - this time around there was chemo and hair loss. Seeing yourself in a mirror without eyebrows and eyelashes is weirder than you might imagine!
This charity relies on the support of friends, family and the general public, not only for donations, but to help in the daily running of the team.
On Saturday 10th August we're undertaking a marathon paddle up and down the river Stour (Christchurch) to raise much needed funds. This will enable anyone who has a diagnosis of breast cancer to experience what I do, now and in the future. If you are able to donate, thank you, but in any case, please come and support us either on the Saturday from Christchurch Quay, or on Sunday 11th where we will be taking part in Christchurch Carnival with our Dragon Boat 💕
