Kate’s story
Some of you will know that I travelled out last year to support a small, registered UK charity in West Africa. The charity BACE is in The Gambia, and they set up and run a Nursery school for 100, 3- to 7-year-olds. In addition, the charity built and run a medical centre , which provides primary healthcare and maternity services for many rural under-resourced villages.
Once again I will be joining a group of volunteers who will be performing a range of tasks, but my main focus will be to work in the medical centre to support the nurses in the clinic, provide CPR training within the community, and also undertake health checks on all the children in the school
The charity is run by volunteers, they have no overheads in the UK so 100% of funds go directly on the projects and staff wages in The Gambia, but to sustain these projects fund raising is essential.
I always said I would one day like to attempt the Hastings Half Marathon, which is on March 23rd so I have entered with a small group of volunteers, but then somehow managed to get talked into running it dressed as a Thermometer! Not sure if I am dreading it or looking forward to it!
All volunteers and Trustees of the charity pay for their own travel and expenses each trip so every penny you donate will go to support the wonderful work they are doing.
Thank you so much in advance for you donation, it really will make a difference
