Charles’s story
I am Charles Morrison-Hughes. I am 18 years old and have always been interested in challenging myself physically through sport. I have dabbled in boxing before but never had the opportunity to take part in something like this. When I saw the opportunity to participate and raise funds for Broughton House Veteran Care Village I jumped at the chance. I have even missed out on going on my first “lads’ holiday” to get involved!!
My great grandfather was a Grenadier Guard in the 8th Army Desert Rats in WWII and fought at El Alamein (Egypt). He was then shot and wounded at Salerno (Italy) and whilst I never met him my father speaks about him with great pride and fondness such that I myself am considering joining the armed forces. Part of me is surprised, given all that our service personnel do and the sacrifices they make, that there is even a need for Broughton House; I would expect them to be looked after by the government, but I am aware through the work that my mum does (Integral Legal Costs) and in particular that of her clients that sadly this is simply not the case.
I am proud to be participating and would be grateful for any sponsorship no matter how small.
