Natalie’s story
Thank you for taking an interest to support my heart behind this challenge on the 7 May 2023.
Protection and justice for the vulnerable (especially children) is very important to me. It is with great honour and much enthusiasm that I take up the challenge to show my support of CRY in their endeavour to help girls in Guatemala who have experienced awful crimes committed against them. I am combining my appreciation of the outdoors, sport and people by joining forces with CRY to endure a challenge I’ve never made before - Tough Mudder 10k - in an attempt to raise funds to help and protect girls in Guatemala in the hope that they are justice and find restoration.
In my place of work I share an office space with the team at CRY and so I know first hand how hard they work to ensure that vulnerable children around the world have a voice, experience support and assistance, protected against crime and devastating poverty and receive education through a great number of projects in over 35 countries.
Whatever I face in the 10K Tough Mudder challenge will be in solidarity with the girls in Guatemala who have lived through far worse experiences. Please support me as I fight through the challenge on their behalf and provide a voice for the voiceless.
In Guatemala, 96% of crimes reported against children go unpunished. Statistically speaking, every day 23 cases of sexual abuse against children are reported, and every day, 6 children under the age of 14 give birth to a child as, a result of rape.
Care and Relief for the Young, in partnership with the Christian NGO Latin Link UK, are supporting Oasis children's home in San Lucas, outside Guatemala City. This residential home that is run by Kids Alive is specifically for girls who are victims of sexual violence. It is a holistic ministry, focused on discipleship and neuroscience that uses Christian principles and trauma-informed therapies to help children heal, and then be reintegrated into a safe family.
Kids Alive also runs a justice centre which focuses on legal support for children, victims of sexual violence, and their families. Seeing justice served for what they have suffered, has a huge therapeutic impact on the well-being of the child, facilitates family reintegration and contributes to a more just society in Guatemala.
CRY’s heart is to see justice done and full restoration completed in the lives of these young girls.
