Rebecca’s story
On the night of 2nd December 2022, a team from Fleetcor Finance will be sleeping outside to experience some of the hardships that Swindon's homeless people suffer. This is an event organised by Swindon Threshold Housing Link.
Threshold Housing Link provide support by providing high quality supported accommodation and undertake outreach services to support rough sleepers. They offer professional support to those threatened with or experiencing homelessness. They offer integrated pathways of care for those experiencing substance dependence or having unmet mental health support needs which may have have contributed to their homelessness in order that they have a chance to change their circumstances for the better.
And folllowing the lifting of COVID-19 measures to protect those threatened with or experiencing homeless, and the current and increasing cost of living has resulted in a perfect storm. The number of people desperate, facing or experiencing homelessness and reaching out for support is skyrocketing. Across the country, the demand on Local Authorities and homeless charities shows no signs of easing. In Swindon the demands are heavy and the signs of worse to come are most evident.
