Julia’s story

The Kirima charity gives children the education they need to escape from the relentless cycle of poverty by providing nursery, primary, secondary and college education and supporting children into their adult lives.
We work in Kanungu, a rural region of Uganda where many people earn well below the national average of £2 per day. Most families rely on subsistence farming to survive.
When I retired I went to live and work in Uganda for nine months, teaching in the schools we support and taking part in the daily life of the community. I could see for myself how profoundly education could change the lives of children and their families.
This year, to raise the funds we need to continue our work, a small group of UK trustees and supporters will walk 800 miles between us. We will start with a ten mile walk on 31st August 2024 starting in Highgate, North London, and ending, symbolically, at the Ugandan High Commission in Trafalgar Square.
Two supporters have promised to match-fund whatever you contribute, and gift aid will add more, so every £10 donated will potentially let us send £25 to Uganda, where it will achieve such a lot.

From the children in Uganda, and from me, thank you for your help!
