nigel’s story
The British Transplant Games has been one of the best weekends that we attend each year as a family. We went to our first one in Newcastle not long after our son James had received his kidney transplant. It was such a fantastic celebration of how transformative an organ transplant can be for the recipient but it is also a huge lift for the family members as you get to meet lots of healthy folk competing in sport all who have received a Transplant. It is difficult to fully explain the significance of this event to us as a family.
We are looked after at the event by the fabulous nurses from Great Ormond Street Hospital Renal team. They really go above and beyond to look after the organ recipients, the parents and all the many siblings. Its like a massive family. One which we have gone back to every year with great excitement.
But taking a team along to the event doesnt come cheap and the nurses need our support to generate funds to help with all the logistics and some of the accommodation costs. So I've decided (along with a good friend Alex) to take part in the Thames Path Ultra Challenge on Sept 12th by walking 100km in under 24hrs.
It would be great if you felt you could support this fantastic cause by donating some money and help us take the lovely GOSH Renal families to the games!
