Sophie’s story
We’re starting out at 7.30am this Saturday to climb Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest peak, followed by a mere 6 hours in a minibus (sounds like the hardest bit) to Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak, before an overnight jaunt (minibus again), disembarking at 2am, head torch firmly strapped on, to round off the pleasure cruise with a trip up and down Snowdon, Wales’ highest peak. Hopefully we will see the sun rise from the top and make it down to the bottom to complete the challenge in 24 hours.
I’m raising money for KEEP KIDS IN SCHOOL - FRIENDS OF APEED-BENIN, a very small charity of which I’m a trustee, and we support a locally-grown NGO that enables 100 kids in Parakou, North Benin, to afford school fees and get an secondary education.
If we can raise £1,000, that will give 10 kids an education this year. There are no overheads, administration costs or expenses. Everything we get, we send.
My dad, David Mills, lived and worked in Benin in the late 60s, and our involvement in supporting projects in Benin keeps him alive in our memories, a place he’s been residing for the last 20 years.
