Doc Society’s story

It was his smile that drew people to Bill Nemtin. He had a philosophical bent, a joyous sense of humour and boundless love and loyalty to his family and friends. Bill also loved what he called “great content”, untold stories, and the complexity of truth telling. He believed that media had the power to shape our society. Bill dedicated his professional life to ensuring great content was created and seen. Working with partners across the globe he produced and financed hundreds of hours of impactful documentaries and television.
After Bill’s death in early 2021, his family talked about how they might honour his legacy and continue to support filmmakers to create “great content” as he had throughout his career.
The result was the creation of a cash prize for the Best Social Impact Documentary that will be awarded annually at the Hod Docs Festival in Toronto. The first prize will be awarded in 2023.
Your donation will contribute to newly established Bill Nemtin Legacy Fund at the Vancouver Foundation in Canada, which will be used to fund the award, and help to keep Bill’s memory alive.
Donations in the UK are being collected by Doc Society Charitable Trust on behalf of the Bill Nemtin Legacy Fund
