Patricia’s story
Founded in 2015, The Essence of Academy supports young women aged 11 to 21 through dedicated one-to-one mentoring. The organisation was established to provide personalised support to young women experiencing mental health and emotional wellbeing challenges and has since become a trusted source of guidance and encouragement for those facing a range of difficulties.
Young women are referred to the charity for various reasons, including bullying, risk of exclusion from school, low self-esteem and confidence, self-harming behaviours, and negative body image. We recognise that every young woman’s experience is unique, which is why we work hard to ensure that each participant is carefully matched with a trained mentor who can provide consistent support throughout a year-long mentoring programme.
The funding will enable us to continue delivering this vital service. It will support the recruitment, training, and supervision of mentors and ensure that young women receive weekly one-to-one sessions in a safe and supportive environment. Through these sessions, mentees are given the opportunity to talk openly about their experiences, work through challenges, receive guidance and encouragement, explore positive alternatives, and develop aspirations for their future careers and personal lives.
Ultimately, this funding will help us empower young women to improve their emotional wellbeing, build resilience and self-confidence, and develop a more positive outlook on their futures, enabling them to thrive and reach their full potential.
