ben’s story
I am going to be running the Lakeland 50 fell race/ultramarathon in July for Sarah's rural Library Fund. The race runs from Dalemain to Coniston with 10,000 ft of elevation over 50 miles total. I will be doing this for Sarah's Rural Library Fund supporting the Bibliotecas Rurales de Cajamarca, a charity based out of Peru who promote literacy and preserve indigenous culture and traditions in the rural communities of the high Andes. This work is organised and carried out by dedicated librarians who trek up and down mountain passes to deliver books to the 250 libraries, often held in normal peoples' homes.
To train for this, I will be flying out to Cajamarca to work for the libraries for a time, seeing the life of the librarians and the communities at the heart of the charity, followed by a period of High altitude training Hermit Mode in the Cordilleras of the Central Andes, using the centuries old techniques of the librarians to guide my journey. This should (hopefully) set me up for a sub 12hr race on the 25th!
I will be updating this page regularly about my training and travels as i prepare for this undertaking. I will link the website for the Charity and the Race below. Thanks for reading!
