Lucy’s story
This year we’re taking on our first ever marathon — the Rome Marathon — to raise money for the Transplant Games and Recreational Fund (TGRF).
We had the chance to attend the British Transplant Games in 2025, and seeing the event first-hand showed us just how special it is for the children, young people and families involved. This year’s games will take place in Sheffield in August 2026, where teams from across the UK — including the GOSH Renal team — will come together for a weekend of sport, community and celebration.
Freddie works in the renal department at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and sees first-hand the strength and resilience of children living with kidney disease and those who have received life-saving transplants. Inspired by these incredible patients and families, we wanted to take on a challenge to help support them.
The Transplant Games and Recreational Fund helps children and young people who have had transplants take part in the British Transplant Games — an inspiring event that celebrates life after transplant, organ donation, and everything these young people can achieve.
However, attending the games can be expensive. It costs around £40,000–£45,000 to take a team to the event, and the fund helps ensure families can attend without financial pressure.
Running 26.2 miles will be a huge challenge for us, but knowing it will help children and families attend the games will make every mile worth it.
Any donation — big or small — would mean so much.
Thank you so much for your support 💚
