Alison came to The Sharp End with a view to learning more about the activities and to seeing if the organisation would be suitable for her.
From her first attendance on 19th September 2007, Alison took to The Sharp End through regular participation in yoga, art, jive, salsa and Pilates classes to name just a few. She brought tons of warmth and kindness with her and, above all, the desire and enthusiasm to support the organisation. Right from the beginning, Alison engaged with her peers by welcoming them and learning their names, and her fellow members responded to her quick humour and generous spirit. We saw more of Alison’s giving nature when in December 2007 she volunteered to help with preparation for the Christmas Day lunch for isolated, lonely older people. Being helpful and of service to her peers and to the organisation continued throughout Alison’s time as a Sharp End member.
Over the many years of her involvement, Alison was always a cheerful, warm soul. During the pandemic (from 2020) when our activities were online, we grew to know her better and to appreciate her attitude of ‘carpe diem’; her optimism came through our screens and lifted our spirits.
Even at the most difficult and challenging time, Alison never forgot her friends and her peers.
Alison McEwan, member and trustee of The Sharp End and, above all, friend to all those who knew her.
