Alexander’s story
After a 9 year hiatus, I am back in the saddle with Ride25 Pioneers raising funds for 1morechild.org. Ride25 is now in its 15th year, continuing its ambition to cycle, in annual stages, from London, England to Sydney, Australia. I last rode with Ride25 back in 2017 in Italy and Greece and the event is now in South Asia, having had to take a detour or three because of global geopolitics. I will be cycling with a small group of friends as part of the larger Ride25 with 100+ riders plus the all-important support vehicles to carry protein bars and inner tubes!
We will be 8 days in the saddle from 15th to 22nd November, averaging over 100 miles each day, navigating the busy streets of India and then into the Himalayas themselves as we enter Nepal. I have been in training for much of this year and can confirm that it's significantly harder to get challenge-ready at 50+ than it was in my early 40s! It will all be worth it though as it is an amazing opportunity to raise important funds for the children that 1morechild support in Uganda which currently rents eleven houses in Jinja for boys and girls. These homes accommodate children that don’t have families, and also act as a youth centre for those who live in the slum village of Masese so they have a place they can call home.
I feel very privileged to get the opportunity to visit India and Nepal and relish the prospect of this once in a lifetime ride so I would be extremely grateful if you are able to sponsor me and show your support. Ride25 Pioneers is run by volunteers with all travel, accomodation and costs fully funded by the riders so every pound you give goes direct to 1morechild. Ride25 is also looking into donating a portion of the money raised to help with relief efforts in parts of Nepal that was recently devastated by the glacial water tidal wave. All our hosts in Nepal are very keen for the ride to still proceed as their economy is dependent on tourism and our route is fortunately further south than the worst of the recent devastation which destroyed many transport links.
Many thanks in advance for your generosity.
