Karen’s story
I'm raising £1,200 for Feline Rescue Luton.
My name is Karen and I have been fostering cats for Feline Rescue Luton for 3 years.
4 weeks ago, we took in Fudge temporarily. Fudge was abandoned and was found meowing outside a hairdresser salon. She was taken to the vets, but no microchip and no owner could be found. Fudge was pregnant, and we took her in whilst the maternity cat fosterer got her house ready.
Fudge had other ideas! 3 days before she was due to be collected to go the maternity home, Fudge had her kittens under our bed. We could hear purring and squeaking and 5 bundles of joy appeared overnight.
Sadly, things didn't go to plan as Fudge had little clue what to do. 3 of the kittens got entangled in their cords and we had to intervene to separate them. Not timely enough for Twirl, whose cord had wrapped around his foot, cutting off the circulation. Poor Lion fared no better as Fudge mistook his foot for the cord and accidentally removed it too. Both kittens had their leg amputated at a week old, and the brilliant vet got them through. We were all worried that Fudge would not accept them back, but she was wonderful! Unfortunately, the smallest kitten failed to thrive, even with support feeds, and passed away peacefully at 16 days old.
Today, Fudge and her 4 kittens are doing well, and we are looking forward to the chaos that's to come.
All those vets’ bills don't come cheap, and it's cost £1,200 so far.
So, I am raising funds in two ways.
Firstly, I am doing a sponsored walk.
I am walking 750 miles on the 'Best of British' virtual route from Inverness to London. I will walk 5,000-10,000 steps each day, virtually, around my local area, and venture further afield at weekends, and hopefully get to some of the route locations along the way.
I will update this page when I hit various target locations and post the relevant postcard as an update.
Second, I am also creating a post-box topper to put on my local post-box. If any crafters would like to knit a cat for me, I would love to create more toppers to spread the word.
Any donation, however big or small, would be very welcome.
