Joanne’s story

WIN £1000 and help these three abandoned rescue dogs reach their new furever homes. They’ve come so, so far but we need help with this final hurdle.Ronnie had a rough start to life, he was noticed at approximately 3 months old roaming the street, just skin and bone. We don’t know how long he had been alone for but he wouldn’t have survived much longer. January was handed in by a farmer who had a litter of puppies he didn’t want. He had found homes for all but the little girls, as the villagers in rural areas prefer male dogs avoiding the potential inconvenience of more litters. Wallace came into our care after his owner just simply didn’t want him anymore and would have taken this gorgeous lad to the government shelter where he wouldn’t’ve survived. Starvation, disease and packs of dominant dogs are but a few of the challenges to face any stray in Turkey whether they roam the streets or end up in a government shelter. Without a proper neutering program, regular culls take place to reduce the numbers with horrific and cruel methods being implemented. The only chance dogs have is to be rescued by charities like Animal Friends of Turkey, but as a small, volunteer run, non-profit charity we only have limited resources. In order to keep in line with UK rescues we can only charge a small percentage of the amount it costs to take in a rescue, the rest has to be fundraised which is why we’re running this chance to win £1000 with our 50/50 draw.If we can get 100 supporters to donate £20 we can raise a pot if £2000. 50% goes to the winner and 50% goes towards our £2000 travel cost target to get Ronnie, January & Wallace to their loving new homes and they can begin to live fun filled lives. It costs £2500 on average to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome a dog in Turkey, before any unexpected medical bills. Exorbitant travel costs being the biggest cost we have, but we can’t give up on these dogs. We have to keep going. AFOT has rehomed 500 dogs since it began in 2018, will you help us rehome three more? Simply donate £20. We need 100 £20 donations. Draw to take place live online on our Facebook page on Saturday 4th May 2024.
