Ian’s story

2025 should be a year of celebration for the charity as we move into our 40th year of supporting families in Glasgow.
However, the Caravan Project is facing an unprecedented funding crisis caused by a combination cost of living crisis, high inflation and highly competitive funding environment which has forced us to seek emergency support in order to continue to provide our hugely valuable service.
We have identified fundraising target of £15,000 which will help stabilise the funding and enable us to plan for the future with greater confidence.
Why is our service so important?
The families we support are those who need a short break most; for them a holiday is not a luxury, it is a much-needed break from the stresses and strains brought about by their circumstances. Whist a holiday would make a big difference to these families; many are unable to afford a trip to the seaside let alone a short break.
“We needed some quality fun family time and we got it. The chance to bond and talk without the stress we have back home. It’s been so beneficial and just what we needed.”
It’s clear from our evaluation that the Holidays had a major impact on the participants:
- 96% stated they were very happy with the holiday
- 86% stated that they the holiday had impacted positively on their ability to cope
- 93% felt the holiday had helped broaden their horizons.
- 97% stated that they had a renewed Sense of optimism.
- 91% stated that they the break had helped raise aspirations for the future.
- 100% stated that the holiday had helped create fun happy memories.
- 88% rated the overall holiday experience better than expected
What has caused this funding crisis?
There have been a number of factors that have created this situation:
- Haven have increased their site fees and other associated costs by round 20% in the last 3 years with a further 4.5% rise announced for the 2025 season!
- A number of other costs have greatly Increased including fuel and office costs which have made the situation worse.
- Our funding bid success rate dropped from 83% to 17% during this time period due to a high demand for these funds due to the cost of living crisis.
