Theo’s ‘Marvellous’ Scouting Adventure

My name is Theo Babbage and I am 13 years old. I am an Explorer Scout in Southampton and am incredibly fortunate to have been selected to attend ‘Project 23’ – a Scouting 3-week expedition around Europe (with a Marvel theme!) This expedition will involve undertaking Scouting adventurous activities, meeting Scouts from other countries and experiencing local culture and sightseeing. In order to be selected, I attended a weekend with hundreds of other Scouts from Hampshire where I was assessed for my teamwork, communication and Scouting skills and was proud to be offered a place on this trip.

Scouting is an important part of my life. It has helped me develop my social and communication skills, as well as many other life skills such as fire-lighting and cooking. Scouting has also encouraged me to develop my other hobbies and interests and to share these with others. Being a Patrol leader at Scouts helped me to develop my leadership and teamwork skills, which will be a vital part of the Project 23 trip and are one of the reasons that I was selected for this amazing opportunity. I am also planning to start helping at Squirrels (the new youngest Scouting section) as a Young Leader.

Joining Project 23 is a big commitment and I will attend a number of training weekends and team-building events to ensure that I have all the skills and knowledge needed for our big adventure.

I am looking forward to representing both Hampshire and UK Scouting and being an ambassador for the Scouting movement. I have never had the opportunity to go away for this length of time and am both proud and excited to have been selected to join this team.
