HoverAid’s story
Written by Rob Hawkins, Trustee
HoverAid is a Christian humanitarian charity providing medical care, community health programmes, and emergency relief to isolated communities in Madagascar. The aid and support are delivered by a team of volunteers and medical professionals who are transported to these remote communities with Hoveraid's hovercrafts and mobile clinics and partner organisation aircraft.
During early July 2026, I will be cycling the Coast to Coast route starting in Whitehaven and ending in Tynemouth, UK completing the 220 km route and cumulative climb of 3,040 m five days to raise funds for HoverAid.
I am a trustee of Hoveraid and have been for 3 years. I took on the role as trustee as I am passionate about Africa, in my professional life I worked in a number of countries on the African continent and much of the time was spent in remote areas where there was immense poverty and lack of health care.
Hoveraid is a growing charity and we currently provide health care to around 17,000 people (2025), are ambition is to increase this number year on year and this can only be achieved through corporate and individual donations. Please sponsor me on this challenging ride, knowing that your donation will allow more people to be provided with health care and access to clean water programmes in remote areas in Madagascar, something that most of you reading this will take for granted.
Fundraising Targets
All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.
