Andy’s story
I am very pleased to be running the London Marathon in support of Villiers Park Educational Trust, a national social mobility charity committed to empowering young people to realise their potential.
After 30 years as a teacher, I saw how often students turned to staff for advice and support beyond the classroom. We cared deeply, but didn’t always have the time or specialist training to help students as much as we wanted, especially those facing the greatest challenges.
Villiers Park does exactly this. Through the Future Leaders Programme, young people receive sustained coaching at key stages in their education. I feel very fortunate to be part of this work and have had the privilege of sharing their aspirations and working through the challenges on the journey to their ambitions.
Running the London Marathon is something I never thought I would do. I last ran a marathon in 1995, and long-distance running fell away as family life took priority. Now, at almost 61, this feels like a once-in-a-lifetime challenge – and a bit of a dream come true!
On behalf of everyone at Villiers Park, thank you for helping me to raise vital funds to support our work. Every pound we raise will help to make a difference in the lives of young people.
