Matt’s story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our fundraising page. We've entered the 2025 Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run, which this year is taking place in aid of Parkinson's UK. The Round Britain Reliability Run is a fantastic event... gruelling and tiring at times, but also great fun. The idea behind the event is to drive 2000 miles almost non-stop from Knebworth, Hertfordshire up to John O'Groats, then down to Land's End and finally back to Knebworth.
This will Matt's sixth entry, Steve's fifth and Greg's second, so we all know what we're letting ourselves in for! This year's vehicle of choice is Matt's 1972 Triumph 2000 Mk2 saloon, in which the guys successfully completed the 2016 RBRR together.
The 2025 RBRR will be the 29th in the series that started in 1966 and was then run in 1969, 1971, and 1974, then being run every two years. 1973 was missed out owing to the fuel crisis of that year and later, with the Covid pandemic, the event could not run in 2020, so was postponed until the following year of 2021. It is considered to be one of the longest standing one make car events held in the world and has earned plaudits throughout the old car motoring world. Even the youngest cars taking part are now more than 40 years-old! Since 1990 the event has had a charitable basis and has raised more than £885,000.00 for various UK charities... last time in 2023 the event raised £77,000.00 for Huntington's Disease Association.
The event is to be held over 48 hours from Friday October 3 to Sunday October 6, 2025. To successfully complete the event, our car will leave Knebworth House near Stevenage and then must visit 17 or so prearranged control stops to arrive back at Knebworth for 19.00hrs on the Sunday evening, therefore we are to drive the 2000 miles in 48 hours. No overnight stops are taken, making it necessary for us to share the driving responsibilities. So, while one person is driving, the others are in the passenger seats either navigating, or sleeping/getting some rest ahead of their next stint behind the wheel. There are two breakfast stops built into the event, these being at John O'Groats and Land's End. Vehicles that can be used are Standard-Triumph motor cars that were produced up until 1984.
Its a slightly odd event, as to drive 2000 miles in 48 hours probably does not seem that much fun, but it is the camaraderie amongst the teams, the cars, the roads, the scenery and the pure sense of achievement on completion that makes the event so addictive and appealing.
Wish us luck and thanks for the donation!
