Andrew's Arctic Challenge 2022

I'm doing this trek to raise funds for Emmaus Hampshire who do a fantastic job supporting people who have experienced homelessness by providing them with a home and meaningful work. In March 2022 I will be trekking in Northern Finland on a challenge like no other I have completed before, navigating & snowshoeing through the wilderness as well as camping in the snow! After a day and a half of sub-zero survival preparation, acclimatisation and challenge training the trek commences in Kuusamo before heading into the wilderness where we will head North through the snow. This is no first class trip as I have to pull my gear in a sledge as I trek in snowshoes, and have to make my own meals and set up camp at night.Emmaus is different. They don’t just offer a bed for the night, they give each individual the opportunity to address the root cause of their homelessness and find a long-term way to overcome it. They become part of a community and make a contribution to it, playing an important role in restoring self-esteem and finding a way to overcome homelessness in the long-term.
