Andy’s story
My name's Andy Ferrari and I have been the Befriending Men's Worker worker at Restore for the last 7 years. Restore is a charitable project within Birmingham Churches Together that aims to help refugees and asylum seekers in Birmingham feel welcome and integrate into life in the UK. We seek to achieve this through regular group social activities and our befriending programme involving over 100 volunteers. As a staff team we are continually uplifted thought the feedback we receive and one service user wrote “You’ve offered something priceless: the feeling of being welcomed. Thank you for helping people not only survive but belong.”
I have accepted the challenge of a 24 hour period of silence to help raise funds at a time when Restore, along with many charities, has found fundraising particularly difficult! Those who know me recognise this will be very difficult, one of our volunteers response to my plan was 'Mission Impossible!!' I will be escaping to the country, arriving at Glasshampton Monastery on Friday 5th December ahead of SILENT SATURDAY on 6th December. I am hoping with the help of the Brothers to reduce any outbursts of whistling or singing that will incur personal penalties. Let's see?
Forfeit Penalties:
- Talking £5
- Singing £3
- Whistling £3
Fundraising Targets
All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.
