Elizabeth’s story
Every child deserves a safe place to call home.
In northern Sri Lanka, 24 girls have found that place.
Each girl has her own story.
Some have lost parents. Some have been abandoned. Some come from families experiencing extreme poverty. Others have experienced circumstances no child should ever have to endure.
But their circumstances do not have to determine their future.
Since 2003, Jaffna Children's Home has provided a place of safety, care and belonging for vulnerable girls referred through the courts and probation services.
And it is so much more than a roof over their heads.
The girls receive nutritious food, clothing, medical care, education and school supplies. They are encouraged to discover their abilities through sport, music and the arts, while being surrounded by people who are committed to helping them grow in confidence and build a hopeful future.
And we have already seen what is possible.
One former resident went on to graduate from medical school and is now working as a doctor.
Others have progressed to university and pursued their passions in music and sport.
Girls who once faced enormous uncertainty are being given the opportunity to dream again.
Why I am fundraising
This December, I will be travelling to Sri Lanka with a team from Care and Relief for the Young (CRY) to visit Jaffna Children's Home and spend time with the girls as part of my work with the charity.
As a mother to a young daughter, I know how much we want our children to feel safe, loved, cared for and given every opportunity to thrive.
That's why this visit means so much to me.
CRY is kindly covering the cost of my travel and expenses, but I don't want this journey to simply be a trip that I take. I want it to become an opportunity to give something back.
My flight has cost £822, with approximately £150 expected for expenses. So I've decided to round it up and set myself a fundraising target of £1,000.

Rather than my journey simply being a cost to the charity, together we can turn it into something that directly benefits the girls I will have the privilege of meeting.
100% of the donations raised through this page will go towards supporting the girls at the home in Sri Lanka.
