Alison’s story
This December, I will be travelling to The Gambia to volunteer with BACE Charity, a small but powerful organisation supporting rural communities through education, healthcare, and daily nutrition. BACE runs a nursery school, a healthcare clinic and testing laboratory that provides:
- Daily education for around 90 children aged 3–7
- Nutritious meals every day for the staff and children in the school
- Essential healthcare for the local community
- Salaries for dedicated teachers and clinic staff
What makes BACE truly special is its zero‑overheads model. Every penny donated goes directly to the project. Volunteers and trustees (including me!) pay 100% of their own travel and expenses. There are no UK offices, no wages, and no administrative costs taken from donations. Your support genuinely reaches the children and families who need it most.
Why this trip matters to me - I last visited The Gambia 40 years ago on holiday — and returning now, to give back and support a community in a meaningful way, feels incredibly important.
My Fundraising Goal: £350
This funding will go directly towards: ✔ Providing meals for the children
✔ Educational resources
✔ Teachers’ and clinic staff wages
✔ Healthcare supplies
✔ Keeping this vital work going
Every donation — £2, £5, £10, or more — truly makes a difference.
If you’ve ever wanted to support a charity where your contribution has a real, immediate impact, this is it.
Thank you, your kindness will help, change lives in The Gambia, and I am incredibly grateful for anything you can give.
Fundraising Targets
All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.
