Mark’s story
During Covid lockdowns the preschool has taken a huge financial hit. We are in the same situation as the 3000 early years providers who have already closed and the additional 7000 who may have to close before the end of this academic year as the pandemic hits the sector.
While reserves have kept us afloat, these are running dry and so more deliberate action is needed to replace these. This is a short term situation as the increase in numbers now attending gives us longer term sustainability.
Turning 50 in 2021, I have decided to look to mark this milestone age by taking on three running challenges - inspired by the amazing Julia Peters.
The first to run 2021 km (1258 miles) in 2021 has been achieved (on 30 November) and the two '50' challenges remain.
First the 50 miles. Over the weekend of 8/9 January 2022, I will be joining some friends in running at least 2 miles every hour, on the hour, over 24 hours. With the varied routes being planned, the total mileage will be at least 50 miles. This is a double challenge of staying awake and active for 24 hours as well as covering the distance.
The 50 km challenge is planned for 15 May 2022 when I look to run the Goring Gap Ultra Marathon, a measured distance of 50km (31 miles) along the Thames at the foot of the Chiltern Hills. This is a 'start to finish' race.
The events are entered and paid for and so all donations go directly to the preschool. Unlike other giving pages 'Wonderful.org' do not take any money from donations made and provide us with the details to make gift aid claims.
