UK LANGA TOWNSHIP PRE-SCHOOL TRUST
Registered with the Charity Commission, the Objects of the UK Langa Township Pre-School Trust are, ‘to advance education for the benefit of the public of the township of Langa, Cape Town, South Africa by supporting the Nomonde Educare initative and any other pre-school initiatives in the township through assistance such as materials, equipment and furnishings and direct financial asistance, the provision of professional advice and such assistance as deemed appropriate.’
Since the Trust’s foundation in February 2011 the infrastructure of the Dalukhanyo and Nomonde Pre-Schools has been significantly improved with two new classroom buildings, security fencing, new playgrounds and better equipped kitchens and offices. Additionally at Nomonde over the last two years water tanks have been installed and a vegetable garden completed.
Over the whole period food, clothing and educational materials have been provided. Since 2018 the Trust has funded the post of Administrator and an office at Nomonde Pre-School. This has enabled the Trust to reach out and support five other pre-schools. Also, with the impact of the ongoing pandemic support has been given to the Langa Early Child Development Forum with donations to purchase food, sanitary and cleaning items.
The Trust in the UK is overviewed by a Board of six trustees and is run by volunteers. 97% of available money is spent on the pre-schools. Funds arise largely from donations and from profitable events including jazz concerts, dinners and annual golf tournaments. Friends of the Trust receive quarterly newsletters all of which, with other information, is available on www.langapreschooltrust.uk
