Leatherhead Community Hub (LCH) is a dedicated community centre in North Leatherhead, one of the most deprived neighbourhoods in Surrey. LCH provides opportunities for people to come together socially and build community, as well as giving organisations a base from which to offer critical support to the community and spaces to hire for local residents and community groups. Our mission is to create a safe, welcoming space at the heart of North Leatherhead, where people of all ages can connect, learn, have fun and find the support they need to thrive. Since opening in March 2022, we have become an established and much loved part of the community, welcoming more than 3,000 visitors a month to the Old Schoolhouse Café and the many other community-led activities going on at the Hub. LCH has become a home from home for many, helping to reduce social isolation and strengthen mutual support networks: “The café means everything to us. Like a warm, friendly, caring family, you make us feel loved and part of the community. Thank you so much.”“I love feeling part of my community and getting to know the other people in my neighbourhood. It has given me a purpose and made me feel useful and valued.”LCH brings together eight local organisations with a shared vision to serve this community: All Saints Preschool, Mid Surrey Community Fridges, Good Company (who run the local food bank), Molebridge GP Practice, Citizens Advice Mole Valley, The Hive (a creative arts project), Links 2030 (a youth employment initiative) and The Gathering Church, most of whom operate from our premises. LCH continues to be a safety net for individuals and families who are struggling financially and in other ways. Thanks to our funders, we offer a variety of free or affordable activities, including a monthly community meal (Family Feast), children’s movie night (Friday Film) and our annual Summer BBQ and Christmas Party, as well as a weekly Advice Café, offering drop-in advice on debt, benefits and other issues. None of this activity would be possible without the generous support of so many individuals and organisations who have donated their time, money, and skills.
