The Oliver Fisher Neonatal Unit (OFNU) is a level 3 unit that takes the more poorly and most premature babies from Medway and Swale but also throughout Kent. Our charity aims to fundraise to make sure that there is a gold standard of care available for these tiniest of patients. This can include providing top-of-the-line equipment, such as the specialist cots we purchased recently, to purchasing newly available technology which prevents invasive procedures, like the TCM5s bought last year. TCM stands for Trans-Cutaneous Monitoring, where a small sensor is place on the patient rather than needing to carry out painful or distressing procedures, such as heel prick tests. The impact of saving a baby, or giving a family respect and dignity in the face of the unspeakable, can never be underestimated, nor shall it ever be undervalued by us as an organisation. We take our role in supporting the NICU seriously.
