Simon’s story
The amazing and wonderful staff at Bristol Eye Hospital saved my sight in both eyes in 2009. I was so grateful and appreciative that I became a member of Friends of Bristol Eye Hospital later that year and then a Trustee in 2011. I have been Treasurer since 2012, raising funds and helping the Friends to support the hospital in any way we can. Grateful patients frequently tell us how much they appreciate the kindness and dedication of all the marvellous hospital staff.
I ran the Bristol to Bath Marathon in October 2015 raising funds for Friends of Bristol Eye Hospital, Lifecycle's Two's Company and Sightsavers International. I am now running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in aid of the Friends on 1 August 2021.
Friends of Bristol Eye Hospital is a registered charity providing additional medical equipment, staff facilities and patient comforts at Bristol Eye Hospital. Since foundation in 1977, the Friends have made grants of over £1½m to the hospital.
